The Lone Wolf

James had set the course. The ship was to be heading to Tortuga to pick up some supplies and spend the takings of the Jolly Roger’s last takeover. Hook took his earnings and hid them away and left the rest to be divvied out in his absence. He took to the island, and for the first time in ages, felt that it was calming to him rather than stressful. When James had first arrived on the island, all those years ago, he believed the island to hold magical properties. He’d spent hours on the island, exploring its shores with his men, wandering around the shallow edges of the isle. This, of course, was before Pan and the terrible years. He took a seat on the beach, below a wide tree that hung its low branches over the sand.

Wolfie peeked over the railing of the ship, finding herself itching for a real adventure. With herself still unfamiliar with Pan and the Lost Kids, and knowing better to face the mermaids and indians, she set off for the Jolly Roger, indenting to find golden treasure lucking somewhere in the ship.

But as she scanned the deck for a clear route to below, her eyes fell upon the captain, and locked onto him.

She couldn’t explain why, but she had been intrigued with the man since she met him in disguise. It had been too long since they spoke, with him not even realizing it was a lady he shared a conversation with.

Smirking, she began to form a plan as she watched the Captain move, making sure to stay hidden the whole time.

Wolfie cocked her head to the side, trying to remember who she actually had alliances with before she went away.

“Quite honestly, no one. I kinda stick to myself and on my own.” She shrugs. “It makes things a bit easier that way.”

“I can respect that,” Ayla nodded, her smile fading. There were ties she wished she never had. There had been a boy, but he was long gone. Her hands slipped into the pockets of her hood, its mane scratching at the back of her neck. “Ties aren’t always the easiest to deal with, once they’re severed.”

Wolfie could barely see it, but she saw Ayla’s change in demeanor. It was subtle, almost invisible. But it was definitely there, peeking through.

"But I’m definitely hoping to make some ties. I may be a bit of a lone wolf, but that doesn’t mean I can’t have some friends, yes?" She asked, hoping to bring the aure back to a more positive one.

Wolfie gave an exaggerated gasp, hands placed over her heart. “How ever did you know?!”

She couldn’t keep the act up for long and gave a heartfelt laugh, running a hand through her pixie hair. Wolfie calmed down soon enough, and felt it was better to get the seriousness out of the way quickly.

“So. Who are your ties with?”

“Pan, with the occasional chug of alcohol with the pirates. Merely for the free drinks and food, of course,” she smirked, tugging at her hood. “How about you?”

Wolfie have a single nod, draping the hood back over her shoulders. She gave a small sigh, looked the girl up and down quickly, hands resting on her hips.

“Don’t think I’ve seen you around before. What’s your name?”

“Ayla,” she nodded, looking the other girl up and down. “And I’m going to take a stab in the dark and guess.. Wolfie?” Ayla grinned, meaning to joke about the hood.

Wolfie tensed for a moment at the girls sudden appearance  but calmed down just as quickly. Slipping her tomahawks into their holsters, Wolfie slipped the hood off her head and offered it to the girl.

“See for yourself.” Wolfie said, a smirk forming at the corner of her mouth.

Ayla carefully took the hood in her hands, her fingers running across the soft fur. “It’s beautiful!” she whispered. “Did you make it yourself?” She handed the hood back to the girl, handling it delicately.

Wolfie swung the matching tomahawks in her hands carelessly, not making it a point to stay quite as she walked through the woods that night.

She knew she had missed a lot since she went into hiding. The reasons for her absence, she’d never explain. But she was back and she itching for a fight, be it either a friendly battle or a fight to the death.

She inhales deeply, letting the breath out slowly. Wolfie looked up at the night sky, the moon full and glowing brightly. She gave a small chuckle to herself.

“Weird things always happen on a full moon.” She stated to no one in particular.

“Oy, don’t they?” Ayla grinned, dropping down from above the girl. “I like your hood. Is it a wolf?” She flipped down her own hood, admiring the other girl’s.

OOC~

Anyone on?

I’m sorry for my too long and sudden absence. There were some weird person things I had to deal with. But I’m back. For how long? I don’t know. But I miss this and I’m back and Wolfie is ready for some fighting.

I need a drink…

She chuckled, running a hand over the back of her neck. He was definitely less fearsome and more charming than she had expected.

More like through over-heard conversations in the forest and from the fairies. You’re a lot more… gentleman-like than they let on. I mean, well, one of the pixies said you’d slice my throat the moment you’d see me. Yet here I stand.” Wolfie smiled and nodded once, hoping he wouldn’t take what she said offensively.

“Ah, the island folk,” Hook grumbled, shaking his head in a disapproving manner. “They like to pretend I’m an evil source here, but they’ve got it mixed up. I’m not the one stealing babes from their beds,” he shook his head.

You mean Pan, yes?” She asked, her interest perking up quite suddenly. Wolfie knew about Pan bring kids to the island (another thing she heard through the forest), but the way Hook said it made it seem like a much more awful thing than it seemed.

*Right then and there, Howler smiled the biggest smile he had smiled in years, and it showed. His big smile was toothy and his eyes glowed and gleamed.* That’s a great thing to hear. Really great! *He blushed a bit too but quickly shook it away.* Um.. so. Are you sleepy at all? Or would you like to talk more about yourself for me?

Wolfie returned the smile, but it was small and tired. She gave a deep sigh, cracking her neck in the process.

“I’m pretty tired. Besides, you don’t want to hear about my boring life. And if you do, I’ll tell you more in the morning. Okay?” She raised her brows at him, the smile still apparent.

*He smiled and ruffled her hair playfully, but as he started to let go… he hesitated, stared into her eyes again, and dropped his hand quickly.* Yes, that sounds nice. You can sleep here in the blanket fortress. I’m just as comfortable out here by the fire.

Wolfie originally wanted to protest, to give him the blankets and she could sleep elsewhere. But it had been a long day for her and with the storm now taking over the island, she knew she’d be a fool to refuse.

Without saying a work just yet, she slipped off her boots and jacket and slipped into the blankets, giving a deep sigh of comfort.

"Thanks, Howler. I really appreciate this." Wolfie whispered, half-lidded eyes looking up at him. "Hopefully the storm will pass soon…" With those muttered words, she drifted off into sleep, feeling safe for the first time in  a very very long time.
